Love to Swim follows the high standard of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and all of our children’s courses follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming which is a world recognised programme for teaching children to swim.
During each 30 minute lesson your child will receive far more guidance and feedback than in usual group lessons of a much larger size thus, your child’s progress will be much improved and noticeable.
View the timetable at each location for classes, course dates, times, prices and how to enrol.
The chart shows how children can use the National Teaching Plan with Love to Swim during their learning journey and beyond to support their future healthy lifestyles.
As a result of completing ALL the outcomes detailed within each stage of the National Plan for teaching swimming, a set of award certificates are available to purchase, called the National Plan Awards’.
FOUNDATION
The swimmer’s ‘journey through aquatics’ starts with Foundation, a programme for developing early-years water confidence, encouraged through sessions such as ‘adult and child’ and pre-school sessions. Emphasis is on the development of very basic motor skills and an introduction to water and the swimming environment through fun and games.
STAGE 1
Developing basic safety awareness, the ‘class’ scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use aids, e.g. arm bands, floats etc.
STAGE 2
Developing safe entries to the water, including jumping, basic floating, travel up to 5 metres and rotation unaided to regain upright positions. Swimmers may use aids, e.g. arm bands, floats etc.
STAGE 3
Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge.
STAGE 4
Developing understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes, and swimming 10 metres to a given standard.
STAGE 5
Developing ‘watermanship’ through sculling and treading water skills, and complete rotation. Performing all strokes to the standard as directed and swimming up to 25 metres.
STAGE 6
Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing; developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise and swimming up to 50 metres.
STAGE 7
Developing a quality stroke technique up to 100 metres, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course that combines a variety of skills accomplished throughout Stages 1-7.
Youngsters who take part in the awards will fulfil at least all of the requirements set out in the National Curriculum and will work towards bronze, silver and gold awards, with three awards at each level along with for those. The awards have been mapped against the Lifesaving model for Long Term Lifesaving Development programme to ensure the appropriate activity is matched to the age of the participant. While group lesssons are fantastic, large class sizes and distractions can slow the rate of progress. Private swimming lessons at the Crowne Plaza Docklands hotel offer fast results as much more can be achieved through bespoke lesson whereby your child will have the full attention of one of our highly experienced teachers.
